Our class just finished a unit about how to keep ourselves healthy. We read stories, kept journals and designed our own healthy lunches to bring to school and eat. It was a lot of fun and we learned a ton. Please feel free to comment about our learning we have written below describing what we learned during this unit. Enjoy!
We have spent the last 3 weeks working on our Learning Fair solar system research projects. We began this unit after learning about constellations and designing our own constellation with a story to go with it. These are located to the right if you would like to hear our stories. We wanted the children to learn beginning research skills. Our goals included:
1. Exploring non-fiction texts.
2. Early note-taking skills.
3. Write a short report based on their notes.
4. Create a project based on their topics.
In preparation for the Learning Fair we first decided on a topic to learn more about. We then worked with a research buddy to develop 3 questions about the topic. We then research by reading books and watching videos. When the question was answered, we took notes and recorded the resource of the information. We ended the unit by choosing a way to display our learning through a mural, model or mobile. Our projects and reports will be on display at the Learning Fair on Saturday, March 21 in the high school from 1-4pm. Hope to see you there!
On Valentine’s Day we also celebrated the 100th Day of school in the morning. Each of us brought in a collection of 100 items. We then counted the collections by first putting them into groups of 5, then 10. We read the story 100th Day Worries and played a game in which the first person to get to 100, wins. It was a fun and very busy day!
We celebrated Valentine’s Day by making paper heart Valentine holders. We then taped them to our desks and on Valentine’s Day we delivered them to our friends. After PE we came back to the room and opened our Valentine’s while listening to a little Louis Armstrong, one of our featured people for Black History Month. We ate one of our treats, a cookie and some pink milk. We had a great time!
